Ultiworld is hiring!

Our reporting continues to become more in-depth as we grow as a website. We are looking to continue that trend as we expand our team by hiring some new staff. And, yes, we mean hiring — these are paid positions. If you are interested in getting involved with a fast-growing, high-quality sports journalism brand, we want to hear from you.

Currently we are most interested in filling the following positions:

Assistant Managing Editor

Ultiworld is hiring a part-time editor-level position to take on some of the day-to-day management of staff, writing assignments, and content scheduling. You will work directly with Charlie Eisenhood (Editor-in-Chief) and Sean Childers (Managing Editor) to set editorial direction, assign stories, and facilitate the publishing process.

We are seeking a detail-oriented, extremely well-organized candidate for a 5-10 hour/week commitment.

Responsibilities include:

– Communicating with Ultiworld staff writers about assignments, deadlines, and future planning
– Send updates to Ultiworld editors about current staff assignments and scheduling
– Develop and pitch story ideas to editors
– Help edit stories, format in our content management system (WordPress)
– Be an advocate for staff writers
– Maintain a publishing schedule

Columnists: Become A Voice

If you are an experienced player or coach, and feel compelled to write about ultimate, we are interested in hiring you as a part of our columnist team. Whether you want to write opinion columns connected to the news cycle, write about high-level strategy, or something entirely different, there may be a place for you.

These positions operate outside of the normal news operation at Ultiworld, and are flexible in their format. Some current voices include Tiina Booth, Sion “Brummie” Scone, and Benji Heywood.

Regional Coordinator/Writer

We are looking for smart, capable writers/reporters/editors who know their local Ultimate community well. This position will be a blend of writing, facilitating coverage on a regional basis, editing local writers’ work, and helping develop Ultiworld around different parts of the country.

The ability to travel on weekends for tournament coverage a plus. (All travel expenses are paid).

Writing, reporting, or editing experience preferred, but not required.

Tournament Reporters

The above position could also fall into this category, but tournament reporting is its own fun line of work. Be on the ground during a weekend of competition and follow the stories, interview players, and write about the teams. This is the fundamental work we do at Ultiworld — become a part of it.

No experience? Don’t worry — we have training and protocols to follow.

We are always looking for good tournament reporters from around the country. Particularly looking for reporters in the Midwest, South Central, and West.

To apply for any of the above positions, please send an email to [email protected] with your name, your credentials, why you would be a good fit for Ultiworld, which position you are applying for, and three story ideas relevant to your position. Please put the position you are applying for in the subject line. If you think you could contribute to Ultiworld, but not specifically for one of the above positions, let us know!
