In a surprise upset, Cal’s Marisa Rafter was selected as the winner of the 2016 Callahan Award. Rafter has been dominant this season for the California Pie Queens, leading them to their first Nationals since 2012. Finally healthy after years of battling injuries, Rafter’s has shown herself to be elite on both sides of the disc, racking up blocks for Cal’s D-line and helping their offense with her dynamic backfield cutting and huge throws when needed.

It certainly didn’t hurt that Rafter had one of the postseason’s most talked about Callahan videos, giving her a reputation for stuffing throwers on the mark by showing 22 point blocks, including numerous spectacular footblocks. Rafter will be continuing to play with Bay Area Nightlock this women’s club season.
