Ultiworld Is Hiring New Staff For 2014

We are still taking applications for a Business Development position. It is a part-time, paid (and potentially lucrative) opportunity, See the listing here.

With the club season now behind us and wintery weather on its way, Ultiworld is looking ahead to an exciting 2014. The official start of the college season is right around the corner.

Our Club Championships reporting was our most ambitious yet, with livestreaming coverage of early round games and in-depth reporting all weekend long. We are looking to continue that trend as we expand our team by hiring some new staff as we prepare for the college season (and the professional season) in the Spring. And, yes, we mean hiring — these are paid positions. If you are interested in getting involved with a fast-growing, high-quality sports journalism brand, we want to hear from you.

Currently we are looking to fill the following positions:

College Regional Coordinator/Writer

We are looking for smart, capable writers/reporters/editors who know their local Ultimate community well. This position will be a blend of writing, facilitating coverage on a regional basis, editing local writers’ work, and helping develop Ultiworld around different parts of the country.

We are particularly interested in hiring staff in the Southwest and Northwest. The ability to travel on weekends for tournament coverage a plus. (All travel expenses are paid).

Writing, reporting, or editing experience preferred, but not required.

College Beat Reporters

Think the Regional Coordinator position is a little too much for you, but still want to do local reporting? The Beat Reporter position could be a perfect fit. Follow one or two teams for the season, doing reporting, interviews, and in-depth coverage. We are particularly looking for coverage of the top 10 ranked teams in each of the College Men’s and Women’s Divisions.

College Tournament Reporters

The above two positions could also fall into this category, but tournament reporting is its own fun line of work. Be on the ground during a weekend of competition and follow the stories, interview players, and write about the teams. This is the fundamental work we do at Ultiworld — become a part of it.

No experience? Don’t worry — we have training and protocols to follow.

We are always looking for good tournament reporters from around the country. Particularly looking for reporters in the Southwest and Northwest.

College DIII Reporters

We are looking to significantly expand our coverage of Division III college ultimate in both the Men’s and Women’s Divisions. There are opportunities for reporters and columnists. Particularly, we are looking for geographic representation outside of the Northeast.

Professional Ultimate Beat Reporters

Are you interested in following the Major League Ultimate and American Ultimate Disc League seasons with a sharp eye? We are looking for one or two reporters to help out with news gathering, game previews and recaps, and team/player profiles in the professional leagues.

Whether you have interest in only one league or both, we want to hear from you!

Columnists: Become A Voice

If you are an experienced player or coach, and feel compelled to write about ultimate, we are interested in hiring you as a part of our new ‘voices’ section (which will become integral upon our winter website redesign). Whether you want to write opinion columns connected to the news cycle, write about high-level strategy, or something entirely different, there may be a place for you.

These positions operate outside of the normal news operation at Ultiworld, and are flexible in their format.

Internships — Editorial and Video

Want to get involved with Ultiworld, but not sure you have the requisite experience? Are you a high school or college student who wants to gain experience in reporting, video editing, or writing? We are looking to bring on some awesome young talent to help us in various capacities in both the editorial and video sides of the site.
