Saturday Night Rankings Update: Elite-Select Already Shaking Up Bid Picture

Bids are changing hands.

Resident Ultiworld rankings expert Cody Mills took the results from today’s Club Division action and ran the USA Ultimate algorithm to give a snapshot of what the USAU rankings would be if the season ended tonight. You can see more on frisbee-rankings.com.

Men’s Division

  • As expected, GOAT debuted safely inside the top 16, yielding a third bid for the Northeast. Of course, their ranking is volatile right now with so few results, so they’ll need to keep playing well on Sunday and later this season. But they’re in a good spot.
  • Big days for Chain Lightning (2-1, 13-9 win over GOAT) and Condors (3-0, 13-8 win over Temper) sent both teams flying up the rankings into the last two spots inside the bubble. That means a second bid for the Southwest and the Southeast, at the expense of the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic.
  • Speaking of the Mid-Atlantic, yikes. 1 bid region? It could happen. Truck Stop and Patrol are at #17 and #18, respectively. Both teams have more games, though. Truck, especially, has a chance to play into a bid at the Pro Championships.

Mixed Division

  • No Touching! had a huge 3-0 day with blowout wins and, as a result, vaulted 13 spots and into a second bid for the North Central.
  • Blackbird followed suit: they went 3-0, jumped up double digits, and now sit on a second bid for the Southwest. What’s more: Mischief might play against shame. tomorrow in consolation play — that game could well decide the final spot inside the cutoff.
  • Lochsa drops out…ouch! They went 2-1 with the loss coming by just two points against Love Tractor, but that loss–and their one-point win over Steamboat–dragged them down three spots. The Northwest might be looking at just two bids.

Women’s Division

  • The Northeast is up to two bids after Iris bumped up five spots…without playing! Grit’s big 2-1 day with wins over Schwa and Underground pushed Iris up, since Iris beat Grit back at the Boston Invite.
  • Wicked dropped six spots and out of the top 20 after today’s play. Their loss to 6ixers, who debut outside the bid cutoff, is especially hurting them. They could rebound if the 6ixers move up (as they are expected to later in the season).
  • The Northwest and Southwest are hanging on to third bids right now, but both Schwa and Wildfire dipped in the rankings. They’re still about 30 points clear of Siege, so there’s some breathing room…but not much.
