College Power Rankings, Presented by NUTC [Mar 20, 2019]

Here are this week’s College Power Rankings, presented by the National Ultimate Training Camp!

While our College Power Rankings can always been found on our permanent rankings page, every Wednesday during the season, we will post the current week’s edition here on the front page to facilitate discussion in the comments and serve as a permalink for each week’s rankings.

D-I Women’s Discussion

  • No changes to the rankings this week in D-I Women’s. Clemson put up an impressive and dominating showing at the weekend’s lone event (Tally Classic), but remain just outside our Top 25; they are poised to enter the rankings should other squads stumble in the coming weeks.

D-I Men’s Discussion

  • Colorado continue their upward trajectory started at Stanford Invite, climbing all the way up to #8 after an undefeated weekend at Centex. Joining them in their rise is a rejuvenated Wisconsin Hodags side that reenters the Top 10 for the first time in more than a month.
  • Going the other direction is Texas, who lost their home tourney and the momentum they had built up over the spring. They drop six spots to #10 after losing to their regional rival in the semifinals of Centex.
  • Also falling after picking up a loss at a tournament close to home, #13 Central Florida comes back to earth a little after their out-of-nowhere performance at Florida Warmup. While they still managed to win the Tally Classic bracket, they surprisingly dropped a pool play game to unranked Notre Dame.
  • New to the Top 25 this week are southeast pair LSU and Auburn. LSU played tight with both Wisconsin and Texas en route to a fourth place finish at Centex, while Auburn made it all the way to the final of Tally Classic before losing to Central Florida. It’s been an up-and-down season for both squads, but they have earned their inclusion near the back end of the board — at least for now.
  • Colorado State just barely hangs onto the last spot in the Top 25; they bombed in Saturday pool play at Centex before scraping out a few wins, but played both tournament finalists close.
  • We say goodbye to two Texas teams this week who disappointed in a home state event. Neither Texas A&M nor Texas-Dallas qualified for the quarterfinal round at Centex, ending their current stint in the rankings and calling into question their chances to meaningfully contend in the South Central.

D-III Women’s Discussion

  • Very few D-III women’s teams were in action this past week and none that impact our Top 25. Expect a shakeup next week, with several ranked squads and several others hovering just outside the Top 25 taking the fields this weekend across the country.

D-III Men’s Discussion

  • While they didn’t do anything worthy of a move up in the rankings, Rice took care of business in Tier 2 at Centex, going undefeated and picking up victories over several D-I squads to justify their inclusion in our Top 10.
  • Despite an overall losing record at Oak Creek Invite, SUNY Geneseo enter the rankings at #19 after kicking off their season with a few nice wins; their three-point victory over Princeton is in line with what we saw from #18 Brandeis earlier this spring.
  • Bates Orange Whip return to the Top 25 this week after getting revenge over Colby in their second meeting of the season, knocking the Dazzlin’ Asses out. The top two D-III squads according to the algorithm are neck-and-neck at the bottom of our board, at least until they and their opponents get more connected to the field.
  • Also dropping out this week are Williams, who had a disappointing weekend at Oak Creek Invite.
