Pot Draw and Format for European Ultimate Championships 2019

Things are taking shape for the EUC!

The European Ultimate Federation has given us the pot draw for pools at the European Ultimate Championships (EUC), which will take place in Gyor, Hungary this July. The final pool draw will be revealed in an exclusive EuroZone episode next Tuesday, but for now here are the pot draws. Seeding was based on the final ranking of the EUC 2015. Teams that did not attend EUC 2015 were seeded alphabetically after the attendees. The teams are then grouped into pots as shown below according to this seeding. Pots, therefore, consist of roughly equivalently seeded teams. Pot 1 for each division is split into A and B pots to ensure that the finalists from 2015 will not meet in semis if everything goes to seed. Pools will then be drawn semi-randomly from these pots as shown below.

Format

After initial pool play, three new pools of five teams will be created: two upper pools and one lower pool. No games from initial pool play are carried over into the new pools. Teams finishing as the top two of their initial pool move to power pools, where they will be joined by the two “best” third place teams. The third place teams are ranked first by how many victories they have against the top two finishers of their pool and ties are broken by initial seeding. Power pool winners advance directly to quarter finals and all of the rest of the teams aside from the last place team in the lower pool will play a pre-quarter.

Format

The top two finishers from each pool will go to two power pools of four teams without carrying over any games from their initial pools. Two lower pools are also formed with the bottom three teams from Pool MA combining with Pool MC and the bottom three teams from Pool MB combining with Pool MD. Here the initial pool games are carried over. The top two teams from each power pool go directly to quarter finals, whereas the bottom two teams from each power pool play a pre-quarter against the top two teams from each lower pool.

Format

The format is essentially identical to the Men’s format but just ignoring the missing team in Pool XA. Again, the top two finishers from each pool will go to power pools and the bottom three teams from each pool will go to lower pools. The top two teams in power pools move straight to quarters and the bottom two of the power pools play against the top two of the lower pools in a pre-quarter game.
