Puget Sound’s Camille Goo, Richmond’s Hunter Lang Win 2021 Donovan Award

The Donovan winners club inducts its ninth and tenth members.

Puget Sound’s Camille Goo and Richmond’s Hunter Lang were announced as the winners of the 2021 Donovan Award winners last night in ceremonies that streamed live on Ultiworld’s Youtube channel.

As an alumnus returning to play with her team thanks to the expanded eligibility rules last fall, Goo helped Clearcut to their fifth consecutive Nationals appearance. While the team came up heartbreakingly short in pool play in Norco, they ended the year ranked #15 and finished third at Nationals in Spirit, a trait specifically called out by Goo’s teammates in her nomination for the award. A former varsity softball player at the university, Goo transitioned to ultimate in her sophomore and was a mainstay for the team over the next four years.

Lang shined as one of the best players in the division in 2021, as a unanimous 1st Team All-American selection and finishing just off the Player of the Year podium. His size and all-around skillset made him a threat everywhere on the field and he was at the center of everything Richmond did last fall, finishing tied for third in Norco after losing to the eventual national champions in the semifinals. Lang becomes the third Spidermonkeys player to win the Donovan award, following in the footsteps of Henry Babcock in 2017 and Harris Cannon in 2020.

Goo and Lang became the ninth and tenth winners of the Donovan award since its inception in 2017. You can watch replays of the women’s and men’s 2021 Donovan Award presentations on Ultiworld’s Youtube channel.
