The seeding and pools for both the D-I College Championships was announced today by USA Ultimate. With the regular season again not counting towards the rankings, there was uncertainty about how seeding would be handled. Ultimately, the seeding hewed closely to what the algorithm would have suggested.

Here are the pools and schedules for pool play at the 2022 College Championships!

D-I Men’s Division [FULL SCHEDULE]

  • These seeding were identical to my predicted seedings except for the tricky trio of NC State, Cal Poly SLO, and Michigan. I had SLO at #7, Michigan at #8, and NC State at #9. NC State, specifically, was interesting because they had both a head-to-head win over SLO but also a loss to Michigan. USAU went with NC State’s win as the key seeding driver.
  • Four regional champions will face off in Pool D! Pittsburgh won the Ohio Valley, Georgia won the Southeast, Michigan won the Great Lakes, and UConn won the Metro East.
  • #14 Washington is a devastating pool four seed. In a normal season, a Regionals upset doesn’t usually dramatically affect the seeding, but because of the lack of rankings this season, USAU reinstated the policy that higher Regionals finishers must be seeded higher at Nationals. As a result, Utah State gets seeded first, and then Washington goes right behind them.

D-I Women’s Division [FULL SCHEDULE]

  • These seedings, too, mostly came in as expected. Compared to my predictions, Colorado got seeded above Carleton (thanks to their head-to-head win, and perhaps because USAU threw out early January and February results before the start of the regular season). Stanford and Vermont are swapped at the #8/#9 slot, which works because Northeastern and SUNY Binghamton got swapped at #16/#17, which prevents the New England regional rematch.
  • The Southeast gets the short end of the rematch stick, with both Georgia/FSU and, in the men’s division, Georgia/Auburn having to face off in pool play. Those are the only regional rematches in the entire tournament!
