Jimmy Mickle will be competing with New York PoNY this club season after years of playing with Denver Johnny Bravo. Mickle will join the team after WUCC, where he will be playing with Australia’s Colony.

Mickle has been living in Australia while competing in tournaments with Colony alongside Chris Kocher, a 2017 PoNY captain and fellow Team USA World Games teammate. “He really talked up NYC and PoNY for 5 months in Australia,” said Mickle. “Definitely front runner for GM of the year.”

Here’s what Mickle had to say about moving to New York:

My decision came down to the realization that I was ready to live somewhere new. I’ve been in Colorado my whole life and New York offers an assortment of new and exciting opportunities in all facets of life. It’s tough to leave Johnny Bravo, a program that has given me so much joy and provided the foundation for my ultimate career. That being said, I’m really excited to play for PONY. There’s a bunch of talented guys on the team who are all putting in the work to take PONY to the next level, and Bryan Jones and [Ben Van Heuvelen] make up one of the best coaching staffs in the world. Honestly, I’m just happy BVH didn’t cut me this time (cough 2010 cough).1

Mickle is joining PoNY after their most successful season to date: the team, for the first time, reached the quarterfinals at the National Championships (where they were summarily thrashed by Revolver, 15-4). PoNY has quietly developed a talented, young core: Kocher, Ben Jagt, Harper Garvey, and Sam Little (the latter three of which just joined the team last season) were the team’s most impactful players at Nationals last fall. Kocher and Mickle, both 26, are the oldest of that group.

PoNY may also land a veteran, Beau Kittredge, who lives in the New York metro area and competes with the AUDL’s New York Empire. But there is no word yet on Kittredge’s plans for the club season.

“We’re happy to welcome Nationwide Overspray and all their employees to the NYC area,” said PoNY head coach Bryan Jones.2

  1. Mickle was originally an alternate for the 2010 USA World Juniors Boys’ team, coached by BVH.

  2. Nationwide Overspray is the company owned by Dallas Roughnecks’ owner Jim Gerencser. I’m not going to explain the joke any more than that.
