Ultiworld Is Hiring New Staff For The Club Season

With the college season officially behind us, Ultiworld is looking ahead to an exciting second half of 2013. From the upcoming Pro League playoffs and NexGen tour to the USA Ultimate Triple Crown Tour and U23 Worlds, it’s going to be a great time to be an Ultimate fan.

Our College Championships reporting was some of our most ambitious yet, with livestreaming coverage of early round games and in-depth reporting all weekend long. We are looking to continue that trend as we expand our team by hiring some new staff as we prepare for the TCT. And, yes, we mean hiring — these are paid positions. If you are interested in getting involved with a fast-growing, high-quality sports journalism brand, we want to hear from you.

Currently we are looking to fill the following positions:

Regional Coordinator/Writer

The Regional Coordinator position is a new opportunity at Ultiworld. Basically, we are looking for smart, capable writers/reporters/editors who know their local Ultimate community well. This position will be a blend of writing, facilitating coverage on a regional basis, editing local writers’ work, and helping develop Ultiworld around different parts of the country. This is our highest priority position at this time.

If you are in the know about the local top club teams, the pro scene (if applicable), and the rising college talent, this is a position for you. Your job is to be “ears to the ground” in your local area and helping to write or assign great stories. For example, if you live in Texas, you would be helping coordinate coverage of Doublewide, Showdown, Space City, and potentially other South Central teams.

Writing, reporting, or editing experience preferred, but not required. Good local contacts a must. Currently looking to hire in most parts of the country except the Metro East and Southeast.

Beat Reporters

Think the Regional Coordinator position is a little too much for you, but still want to do local reporting? The Beat Reporter position could be a perfect fit. Follow one or two teams for the season, doing reporting, interviews, and in-depth coverage.

We are looking for coverage of every Pro and Elite Flight Men’s and Women’s team. Interested in following a top club team over the course of a season? There’s no better way than being a reporter.

Tournament Reporters

The above two positions could also fall into this category, but tournament reporting is its own fun line of work. Be on the ground during a weekend of competition and follow the stories, interview players, and write about the teams. This is the fundamental work we do at Ultiworld — become a part of it.

No experience? Don’t worry — we have training and protocols to follow.

We are always looking for good tournament reporters from around the country.

Videographers/Video Editing Support

Have an eye for filming Ultimate? Know how to edit a game and cut great highlights? Ultiworld is looking for additional video support staff, both to do on-the-ground filming at tournaments as well as doing the post-production work.

You don’t need to know how to do both, but, if you can, your application will be more strongly considered. Owning HD camera equipment a plus.

Opinion Columnists

Got something to say? Can you make people think? We’re always looking for great opinion writers to add to our staff. Writing experience and the ability to turn out copy quickly both important skills.

We are giving special consideration to high-level coaches and players for a new ‘voices’ section of Ultiworld.

Strategy Analyst

Like watching game tape and analyzing offensive and defensive structures? Can you break down a team? We are looking for one or two new strategy analysts who want to dig into game footage and teach us new things.

Experienced players and coaches only.

Internships — Editorial and Video

Want to get involved with Ultiworld, but not sure you have the requisite experience? Are you a high school or college student who wants to gain experience in reporting, video editing, or writing? We are looking to bring on some awesome young talent to help us in various capacities in both the editorial and video sides of the site.

To apply for any of the above positions, please send an email to [email protected] with your name, your credentials, why you would be a good fit for Ultiworld, which position you are applying for, and three story ideas relevant to your position. Please put the position you are applying for in the subject line. If you think you could contribute to Ultiworld, but not specifically for one of the above positions, let us know! We are always looking for great people and new ideas.

Questions and comments can be directed to the same email address or left in the comments on this post.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!
