Growlers Apologize To Fans Offended By Pole Dancing Halftime Show

A local TV channel did a news story about the halftime show.

The AUDL’s San Diego Growlers halftime show during this weekend’s game against the Los Angeles Aviators raised some eyebrows in the ultimate community and local media.

The show featured a group of women from a local gym performing a pole dancing routine:

Late last night, the team released a statement via Twitter:

The San Diego Growlers would like to address concerns regarding Saturday night’s halftime show. During halftime, we hosted a group of athletes who volunteered to perform a choreographed pole dancing fitness routine as preparation for their upcoming competition. They train 3-4 times per week and compete nationally. The women of the fitness studio and Chris of KOR Strength & Fitness showcased their athleticism, strength, and flexibility and their dedication to their competitive niche sport.

Our intention was to allow the women and our trainer to show their enthusiasm for their sport and to entertain the Growlers’ fans with their unique talents and amazing gymnastic routines. We strive to create an experience consistent with our fans’ expectations of a professional sporting event. We support their decision and willingness to showcase their strength and skills in their own way and apologize to any fans who may have been offended.

In the future we will communicate what our halftime show will be in advance of each game to ensure that it aligns with our fans expectations, and we apologize to any fans who were offended. We also apologize to the women of the fitness studio who may have received unwarranted negative attention.

We are committed to learning from this and welcome additional feedback and comments at [email protected].

The AUDL front office does not oversee teams’ halftime entertainment decisions. “The AUDL board is revisiting that policy this week,” said AUDL Marketing Manager Tim DeByl.

The league declined to comment on the Growlers’ halftime show.
