#3 Colorado Mamabird stormed through the best the D-I men’s division had to offer with an undefeated showing at Easterns 2025, nabbing wins over two teams they’d previously lost to to win their first tournament of the season. Mamabird looked strong from the jump, beating #18 Georgia to open the weekend before capping their game against #5 Oregon with three straight scores to claim Pool D and the title of Saturday’s “Best Team”.
With no prequarter round, Colorado put #6 Cal Poly SLO to bed before turning their sights on the two teams above them in our power rankings: #1 North Carolina and #2 Massachusetts. Mamabird seemed at first to have met their match in UNC, going down three to start and conceding an 8-4 halftime deficit. It wasn’t until 11-9 that Colorado earned their first break, but the second, after two redzone drops from UNC to pull within one at 12-11, started the train rolling. Bird broke again in quick succession to pull the teams even for the first time all game, and put in the dagger with a Tobi Brooks huck to take their first lead, 14-13. That set Colorado up to receive on universe, and a clean hold later, Colorado was through to the final, comeback complete, Smoky Mountain Invite loss avenged.
Their last foe: UMass, who’d rolled their competition so far, never allowing more than eight goals until their semifinal against Oregon. Easterns marked Massachusetts’ third time in a tournament final this season, but they were still hunting for their first win. Easterns, however, would not yield Zoodisc’s quarry, as Colorado took a lesson from their semifinal matchup and opened with an unanswered five points. Zoo pulled within two at 12-10 and threw a zone to try and force a turn, but a Brooks patent-pending no-look throw pushed Bird over the goal line. Colorado rode that three-goal cushion to a 15-12 and Easterns victory.
Already ranked within the top four on the unofficial frisbee-rankings.com, Colorado’s tournament win almost assures Mamabird a pool one seed at Nationals — barring any Regionals mishaps in four weeks time.
