Q: A little background, I played in an online league for a shooter a long time ago, but we had an interesting format for the playoffs.
We had a league of 30. 12 teams made the playoffs. The bracket was the same as Nationals, with prequarters feeding into quarters. But rather than doing strict seeding, teams 5-8 got to choose their opponents from the group of teams ranked 9-12. After that, the top four teams chose the matchup from which they would play the winner. For Nationals, I believe it would add some much needed fire and drama. Like a team or group of two teams getting chosen by the 1 seed might feel disrespected that they were chosen early. Some teams might pick a group to leave a bad matchup for another team. It adds to the strategy.
I know scheduling might make this difficult, but I’d just host the selection process at night, right after pool play. Broadcast it with all the team captains present!
