A brand new musical all about ultimate.

The combination you never knew you needed — ultimate frisbee and musical theater — is debuting in New York City next week.
The new original dramedy “Spirit of the Game: The Ultimate Musical” — written by Phil Vlahakis, who won a USA Ultimate Club Championship with New York in 1987 and has been a fixture of New York City ultimate — will premiere at Asylum NYC on Thursday, May 14th, with nightly shows through Sunday, May 17th.
Directed and choreographed by Liz Piccoli, the show follows disgraced high school football star Johnny Diskakis, who gets a shot at redemption when he joins the Greek National Mixed Ultimate Frisbee Team. The musical explores how the sport’s emphasis on self-regulation and sportsmanship has resonance beyond the sporting world. Johnny and his dad, Yiorgos, find themselves relegated from the U.S. to their ancestral home on the island of Crete. There, Johnny meets local athletic phenom and team captain, Thina, who woos Johnny on to the Greek National Mixed squad with immediate results.
The show was a winning selection at the 2025 Florida Festival of New Musicals.
