Q: What’s your take on the Northeast Regionals drama around New York Swipes?
Well, first of all, huge shout out to League of Shadows, who ultimately got offered the bid that got declined but agreed to play out a fifth place game on Monday against T-Party to determine which team would advance to Regionals. They didn’t have to do it, and it’s just a super fun story. The aura!
As to the situation that New York Swipes faced (for those not up to speed, Swipes lost in the game-to-go at Sectionals, and even though a team in their section declined their bid to Regionals, the bid floated to the overall region and an unranked team got offered their spot instead, due to a rarely relevant rule), there clearly needs to be some rethinking of the benefits of playing the regular season.
