Deal Alert: NYC/BOS To London Flights For Worlds For Under $700

I just got done booking a flight to London for the World Championships this June. All in, I paid $648 for a round trip flight on Icelandair from Newark to London Gatwick, including a two night stopover in Reykjavik on my return segment. Although I do have to connect through Reykjavik in both directions, paying less than $700 for a flight to London in the summer time is an absolute steal — those planning to head to St. Albans for the 2016 WUGC should strongly consider booking a ticket now.

While these fares are not likely to disappear overnight, they are too good to be around for long, and the cheapest fares will sell out soon. Fares may be slightly cheaper if you book through Orbitz or Priceline as opposed to directly with Icelandair. However, you can add a free stopover of up to seven nights in Iceland either inbound or outbound if you book through Icelandair’s website.

Dates are limited. Depart EWR on June 15/16/17 and return Monday, June 27th, for fares around $630. Return Tuesday, June 28th, for ~$730.

Flights out of Boston are $760-780 for similar dates. Try using Kayak or Google Flights with flexible dates to find the best available fares.

WOW Air has some mid-$700 flights out of Washington DC. Prices from the west coast are currently pretty high; best available look like upper $900s with many over $1000. Depending on where you are flying from and your availability, it could be worth taking a positioning flight to New York in order to take advantage of these low fares.

An earlier version of this article suggested that you could get cancellation protection that would enable players to buy tickets now and potentially cancel later for a full refund. However, that protection requires a medical reason for cancellation and a note from a medical doctor. Thanks to Jack Hatchett for the find. A good reminder to always read the fine print!
