Why Is There Disc Golf Coverage On Ultiworld?

You may have noticed some articles in the last week that seemed a bit out of place on Ultiworld. We ran a piece about the Professional Disc Golf Association breaking off formal ties with the World Flying Disc Federation last week; today, we published an article about the first major tournament of the 2016 season, the Memorial Championship.

We are in the midst of launching a new disc golf vertical on the site as we look to expand our coverage into a disc sport that is growing even faster than ultimate.

Disc golf has exploded in the past few years: professional players — like undisputed #1 Paul McBeth — can make a modest living, there are three (!) fledging for-profit professional leagues launching this year, and more players pick up the sport every day.

Steve Hill, a veteran disc golf writer and a journalism graduate at Cal Poly SLO, will be leading Ultiworld’s initial foray into disc golf coverage.

Ultiworld.com will remain an ultimate website; we will soon be creating a new site or area of the site that will focus exclusively on disc golf. We will have more information about the project soon.

For now, please let us know if you have feedback or comments about our initial disc golf coverage. We will also be looking for contributing writers and columnists in the coming weeks. Don’t hesitate to reach out at [email protected] with interest.
