WUCC 2014: Power Pools Update

In Open and Mixed, there will be eight power pools with three teams each.

LECCO — Details are not final, but tournament organizers say the basic structure for power pools (in the Open and Mixed Divisions) will be as follows:

– The top two teams from each pool after today advance into power pools and remain in Championship contention
– There will be eight pools of three teams each, some will be 1/1/2 and others will be 1/2/2
– The top two teams from power pools advance to the round of 16

Unfortunately for some two seeds, they will end up in a pool with two one seeds and face a much tougher road to the bracket. It will essentially be luck of the draw. Pools are not finalized at this time.

The women’s division, which contains only 32 teams, not 48, will have a different format, which is still being determined.

Originally, Open and Mixed were going to have 6-team power pools, with the top four from each advancing to the round of 16. But because of the lost day of competition due to rain, TDs had to make major changes.
