California’s Dexter Clyburn was named the winner of the 2025 Callahan Award Sunday evening during the semifinal round of Nationals. Clyburn becomes the third winner from Cal, but the first in the men’s division. Jackelyne Nguyen (2018) and Marisa Rafter (2016) are the school’s previous winners in the women’s division.
Clyburn was the unquestioned leader of #12 Cal Ursa Major all season and for much of his college career. A prized recruit coming out of high school, Clyburn was an instant-impact starter for Cal during his rookie season in 2022 as a key defender. Over the ensuing years, his role shifted to offensive centerpiece and the team coalesced around his talent. In addition to leading Cal in assists each of the last three seasons as their primary thrower, Clyburn led the division with 31 assists this weekend at Nationals.
Just as important as his stellar play on the field, Clyburn is a model teammate and respected competitor. His relentless positivity, ability to see the big picture, and constant drive to improve make him a particularly worthy winner. Teammates and competitors alike praise Clyburn’s work ethic and stamina as much as his friendliness and passion.
Clyburn’s Callahan video is a cinematic masterpiece with over 19,000 views, the most viewed men’s video of the 2025 Callahan season. Check it out below:
