Could anyone top Tobias Brooks' almost 800 yard debut? The answer might surprise you.

Welcome to Better Box Score Metrics, our analytics column focused primarily on semi-pro statistics and discovering new ways to use data to explore ultimate. It is anchored by EDGE, which we can summarize as converting goals, assists, blocks, turnovers, and yards gained into one metric, while accounting for the scoring and turnover environment.
Ahead of Tobias Brooks’ 2025 UFA debut this past weekend, it was not uncommon to hear the opinion that he would be best deployed downfield; 796 throwing yards later (the highest for any player yet this season), we may not hear that again. And yet, for as gaudy as his production was in Colorado’s win over Oakland, it was not the BBSM performance of the week. It wasn’t even the BBSM performance of the game. Oakland’s Evan Magsig had 72 fewer yards than Brooks, but he had the same number of scores, one fewer net turn, and two fewer possessions. But even Magsig doesn’t take the week’s top honor; that goes to LA’s Sean McDougall, who chalked up 617 yards, 8 scores, 2 blocks, and 0 turns to narrowly edge out Magsig. The Mr. Consistency Award goes to Allan Laviolette, who registered 9 scores in both of Carolina’s games and lands twice in the Top 10.
