Welcome to Better Box Scores’ coverage of the semi-pro seasons. It is anchored by EDGE, which converts goals, assists, blocks, turnovers, and yards gained into one metric, while accounting for the scoring and turnover environment.
In two years playing for the Detroit Mechanix, where taking the deep shot was perhaps always the best strategic play, primary handler Jake Felton averaged over six turnovers per game. Now with Indy, Felton is dialing back his huck rate, and in Week 7 hit a milestone: his first turnover-free game in his 2+-year career. Although in a losing effort, Felton’s stat sheet against the Wind Chill was more than clean—it was stellar: 447 throwing yards, 131 receiving yards, and 9 scores. It seems only right that the talented thrower sits atop the Week 7 leaderboard to mark the grand occasion.
