WUCC Team List Finalized

Someone here will be World Club Ultimate Champion.

128 teams from 30 countries will descend on Cincinnati, Ohio, this summer to participate in the 2022 World Ultimate Club Championships. After several years of uncertainty and cancelled world events, WFDF emailed confirmed participants of WUCC on March 24 to give them the “green light” for making travel arrangements.

“I can confirm that the WFDF Covid-19 Working Group has fully approved for WUCC to proceed (based on pandemic status during Q1 2022),” said Karina Woldt, WFDF Managing Director of Events & Operations.

This week, WFDF announced the 128 teams who will participate across the three divisions: 40 women’s, 40 men’s, and 48 mixed teams. While there are 30 countries represented in total, there is a notably large proportion of teams from the USA (17), Canada (13), and Great Britain (12), representing nearly a third of all of the teams in attendance. In 2018, there were 36 countries represented.

While we’ll never know the exact reasons, there are many possible explanations as to why the participating teams are less diverse this time around: international travel has been unpredictable at best over the last two years, the tournament is being hosted in the same city as the last event, and Russian and Belarusian teams were banned from WFDF events in early March.

Nevertheless, after what feels like forever since a world ultimate event, this summer will be full of exciting ultimate. The 128 teams are set and the event kicks off in less than two months on July 23rd.
