The sky darkened, the lights flicked on, and the quarterfinalists put on a spectacle. The 2025 edition of the annual Saturday night slate at Warm Up were high on showmanship and low on wind. Four semifinalists – #4 UMass Zoodisc, #5 Carleton CUT, #11 Texas TUFF, and #13 WashU Contra – remain to tangle for the tournament title on Sunday.

There was another team who were inarguably good enough to try their hand at the bracket. #17 BYU CHI, who do not play on Sundays, finished 8-0 and cleared the next highest-rated team, UMass, by almost 200 algorithm points. Here are the final standings from after match play, color-coded to show the championship, ninth place, and 17th place playoff groupings:

Warm Up’s bracket is exciting, but the real takeaways are about how the teams look en route to their results. Read on for a closer look at each of the quarterfinalists.

Power Ranking the Quarterfinalists

What says more about a team, their results or the impression they make by the way they play? It’s a mix, of course. So in the interest of presenting all parts of the picture, let’s rank all of the Warm Up players by how highly they rate on Ultiworld’s Eyetest-Ometer ™.

For context, here’s how the top bracket has played out so far:

  • Carleton 13 – 9 Pittsburgh
  • Texas 13 -10 Georgia
  • UMass 13 – 8 Vermont
  • WashU 13 – 8 Michigan

(And before the rankings get going in earnest, it’s worth an acknowledgment that BYU would be at or near the top. However, I think it prudent to wait until all the other teams play eight games before offering an opinion on where 2025 CHI fits into the division. They will get plenty of ink as part of the full tournament recap early next week.)
