It was a big week for the D-liners!
June 25, 2025 by Paul Würtztack in Analysis

Welcome to Better Box Score Metrics, our analytics column focused primarily on semi-pro statistics and discovering new ways to use data to explore ultimate. It is anchored by EDGE, which we can summarize as converting goals, assists, blocks, turnovers, and yards gained into one metric, while accounting for the scoring and turnover environment.
Three times this season has a player pulled down more than 510 receiving yards in a game. All three occurred in the past two weeks. And all three came at the expense of the Toronto Rush defense. Last week it was Tobe Decraene and Orion Cable for Boston; this week it is Matt LaBar for the New York Empire, and his 682 total yards/9 scores/0 turns stat line earns him the Individual Game of the Week Award (Table 1). Houston’s defense appears equally generous in sponsoring standout performances, as six of the twenty players on the leaderboard faced off against the Havoc in their double-header weekend.
Given the number of blowouts we had in Week 9, it’s not surprising that D-line players getting a lot of run for the winning teams might have some of the best games of the week, and that is the case for Daniel Ritthaler, Tannor Johnson-Go, and Noah Coolman, who not only top the D-line leaders in E+ (Table 2), but have spots in Table 1 as well.
