Recognizing the top performer of the 2025 season
November 11, 2025 by Josh Katz in Awards

Ultiworld is pleased to announce our annual Club Awards, continuing with the Club Player of the Year in each division. While we consider both regular season and postseason performance, because of the nature of the Club division, we weight success in the Series and at Nationals above all else. The Club Awards are voted on by Ultiworld reporters, contributors, and editors.
Player of the Year is our most prestigious award. Our Player of the Year winner is the best performer of the 2025 club season, and the highest vote-getter for All-Club honors. The winner is not eligible for consideration in any of our other individual awards.

2025 Mixed Club Player Of The Year
Rachel Mast (Ann Arbor Hybrid)

Rachel Mast kicked off Hybrid’s (real) title defense1 with a deep cut to the break side for a score. Rachel Mast also completed Hybrid’s title defense with a not-as-deep cut to the break side for a score. In between those two points, she put on a cutting clinic that dazzled viewers, left defenses helpless, and earned her her first Player of the Year award.
Hybrid’s diverse offense meant that Mast did not have to be the central hub that we normally see atop this podium. (That’s not to say that she couldn’t, to be clear.) Instead, she spent most of her time on the field sizing up her defender, lulling them to sleep before hitting a quick jab step and taking off for the disc. Sometimes, that would be for a short under, and she’d quickly find a reset, loop back to the stack, and begin the process anew. Most often, however, that cut was some form of a slash near or to the end zone, as she racked up goal after goal on Hybrid’s march to title number two.
We could also talk about Mast’s excellent defense (some may argue she was also Hybrid’s most effective WMP defender) or her pristine throwing, but neither of those skills will be front of mind when we reminisce on Mast’s season. It was her cutting that made her stand out on a team loaded with talent. It was her cutting that made her such a wearying and miserable mark. And it was her cutting that made her a must-watch every time Hybrid took the field. If you’re trying to learn how to cut effectively at the highest levels, watch Rachel Mast’s 2025 tape.
