The biggest news and most important games from this year's slate of PUL competition
February 27, 2026 by Emilia Scheemaker and Keith Raynor in News

The 2026 Premier Ultimate League schedule is out, and if last season taught us anything, it’s that the margin between contender and champion is razor thin. With a one-point title game, tightening playoff races, and several mid-table teams knocking on the door, this year’s slate is packed with games that will shape the postseason picture long before championship weekend.
The divisions for the 2026 PUL are unchanged from 2025, with the exception of the loss of the Los Angeles Astra from the South Division.1
- North Division: New York Gridlock, Indianapolis Red, Minnesota Strike, Milwaukee Monarchs, and Philadelphia Surge
- South Division: Raleigh Radiance, Nashville Nightshade, DC Shadow, Atlanta Soul, and Austin Torch
The first round of games kicks off the weekend of April 3-5. Then we have 10 weeks of regular season games scheduled out through June 5-7 before Championship Weekend.
Schedule Musings

This season’s schedule comprises six games per team with an even home-away split. However, imbalanced schedules create potential advantages and significant pitfalls. Since 2023, teams are 12-8 when playing back-to-back games where either both games or the second game take place on the road; five of those eight losses occurred during the second leg of the trip. Even teams that win both games see their average margin of victory drop from over seven points in the opener to approximately two points in the second game.
With those trends in mind, here are the primary takeaways for the upcoming season.
Stuck In the Northeast Corridor

Minnesota Strike and Milwaukee Monarchs both draw the dreaded “corridor” doubleheaders. Each of these Midwest clubs has the pleasure of playing New York and Philadelphia back-to-back, though the order differs for each. Last year, New York and Philadelphia were the ones playing these matchups on the road, and the Surge’s narrow victories indicate just how difficult it is to navigate elite opponents on little rest.
Indianapolis Boasts the League’s Best Slate
Indianapolis has zero back-to-backs and faces New York and Philadelphia—traditionally its toughest competition—within its own home confines. Furthermore, Indianapolis dodges cross-divisional matchups against DC or Raleigh, instead hosting an Atlanta team that, while improved, must travel for the contest.
The Favorites Under Pressure
The league favorites, NY and DC, face immediate tests. The duo play each other in an inter-divisional showdown in Week 4, but their challenges extend beyond that rivalry. DC plays Raleigh twice and faces Austin and Atlanta on the road; its entire road schedule is comprised of the divisional opponents most likely to topple the Shadow. Meanwhile, New York’s road strength of schedule is unmatched, featuring trips to DC, PHI, and IND.
Key Games
Here are the matchups that matter most — and why 2025’s results make them can’t-miss.
Week 2: DC Shadow vs. Raleigh Radiance — The Championship Rematch

DC Shadow enter 2026 as the reigning champs, but Raleigh Radiance are ready to hunt them down after the championship thriller that closed out the 2025 season. That final wasn’t just close — it was a stylistic chess match between DC’s disciplined defensive rotations and Raleigh’s patient, small-ball offense. Every regular season meeting this year carries emotional weight. For DC, it’s about proving the title wasn’t a one-run spike. For Raleigh, it’s the first step toward rewriting the ending.
Week 4: DC Shadow vs. New York Gridlock — Measuring Stick Game
Gridlock are the obvious favorites to throw DC off their game. Long a model of offensive balance and defensive pressure, Gridlock have been a consistent player in cup contention throughout 2025. Their matchups with DC often hinged on a handful of break chances. This year’s meeting will serve as early litmus tests: can New York generate enough offense in transition to crack the champs, or will DC’s system once again absorb pressure and counterpunch?
Week 4: Indianapolis Red vs. Philadelphia Surge — The Bubble Fight

The playoff race doesn’t just hinge on the title favorites. Indianapolis Red and Philadelphia Surge both showed flares of brilliance in 2025 but lacked the consistency to break through. Their head-to-head this season feels charged. Expect big looks, aggressive defensive adjustments, and the urgency of two teams aware that one bad weekend can end a postseason push before it starts.
Week 4: Minnesota Strike vs. Milwaukee Monarchs — Midwest Stakes
In the middle tier, matchups between Minnesota Strike and Milwaukee Monarchs could quietly shape the bracket. Both squads showed in 2025 that they can hang with top competition but struggled to string together important wins. These contests are often physical and momentum-driven — the kind that reward roster depth and late-game composure.
Week 6: Indianapolis Red vs. Minnesota Strike — Rising Stars Collide
If the league’s mid-tier contenders are going to make noise in 2026, they’ll need to prove it against each other first. Both have hovered just outside the championship discussion, yet possess the talent and tactical depth to upset several top squads on any given day. The Red are coming off a banner year, reaching Championship Weekend, but will still be expected to finish behind the hub programs. Minnesota is still looking for that breakthrough. Neither team is in the playoff conversation yet, but each has the balance to make a run at a wild card spot. A win here could be season-defining.
Week 7: Philadelphia Surge vs. New York Gridlock — Defensive Discipline vs. Offensive Craft

In any season where New York is at full strength, their aerial creativity is worth tuning in for. Gridlock’s offense — a blend of precision cutting and backfield creativity — tests even the most disciplined defenses. Philly Surge’s attack blends patience with opportunism. Last year, it was their late-season, high pressure plays that showcased their skill. This game has upset potential and is likely to involve high pressure defense and quick transitions. With both squads near the top of the standings, the loser here might be on the outside looking in when it comes time for championship qualification.
Chances for Redemption
The 2026 PUL season won’t be defined by a single rivalry, but by how last year’s heartbreaks and near-misses fuel this year’s response. DC is chasing a repeat. Raleigh wants redemption. New York is circling. And the middle of the pack is closer than it looks. If 2025 proved anything, it’s that the gap between lifting the trophy and watching someone else celebrate is smaller than ever — and the road back runs straight through matchups with reigning champions, perennial contenders, and hungry challengers. The proving ground has been set for a run to an unforgettable Championship Weekend.
