The UFA's opening weekend numbers include some explosive performances.

Welcome to Better Box Score Metrics, our analytics column focused primarily on semi-pro statistics and discovering new ways to use data to explore ultimate. It is anchored by EDGE, which we can summarize as converting goals, assists, blocks, turnovers, and yards gained into one metric, while accounting for the scoring and turnover environment.
UFA Opening Weekend
With the UFA off and running, we’re now at peak pro-ultimate on the calendar. As with the PUL and WUL, we’ll be keeping the commentary short and turning around the metrics as quickly as we can. For the UFA in particular, which generates live data and then frequently makes corrections during the week, this may mean our weekly leaderboard contain pre-corrected info, but the season-long data will include any updates. We will also be running UFA results weekly instead of bi-weekly given the robust set of weekly games. So onto the opening weekend.
In all of 2025, there were only four game performances above 7.0 in EDGE (three of them from Daan De Marrée in the last three weeks of the season). 2026 already has two after just six games, with Austin Taylor and Tobe Decraene lighting it up for 8.08 and 7.03 EDGE respectively (Table 1). Decraene had the slightly bigger offensive game, particularly on a per-opportunity (xEO) basis, but Taylor brought two blocks to the table, which boosted all of his overall metrics and put him atop the GameRater leaderboard.
