High School Power Rankings: Post-Spaghetti Westerns Edition [5/4/26]

The favorites took home the titles at Spaghetti Western. Plus, five new teams enter the rankings!

Welcome to the sixth edition of the 2026 High School Power Rankings! The rankings can be permanently found on our Youth Rankings page.

The rankings will eventually be used to determine invitations to the 2026 High School National Invite; currently, we plan to use the rankings published the week of May 18th as the final rankings before final bids are sent out (many bids will be sent out on a rolling basis).

If you have additional information about tournaments or team strength that you would like to be considered for the High School Power Rankings, please email [email protected].

Notes

  • #1 Albany (CA) held down their top spot in the rankings with a strong win at Spaghetti Western. They got past a previously undefeated Green Canyon (UT) 10-9 in semis and then defeated South Eugene (OR) 13-9 in finals. Green Canyon jumped in front of South Eugene into the #3 spot in the rankings after playing tighter to Albany. All three teams had already qualified for HSNI.
  • Perhaps the biggest story at SW was Grant (OR), who upset El Cerrito (CA) and finished fourth with losses only to the top three. Their performance flashed more strength from Oregon’s scene, who already had Franklin in the rankings. There’s a possibility the last HSNI spot will be left for the top finisher at Oregon States (besides South Eugene) at the end of May.
  • Four Rivers (MA) continued to make a case for an HSNI spot with a win at the Amherst Invite! While not as strong as some past AIs, it was still a solid field, and Four Rivers edged out Brooklyn Tech (NY) in the final.
  • Welcome to the rankings Druid Hills (GA)! They beat previously top 25 ranked Midtown (GA) at Georgia States and finished second at the tournament behind Lakeside (GA).
  • Parkway (MO) jumped back inside the top 25 after dominating the Missouri State Championships, including a big 13-6 win over Edwardsville (IL) in the final.
  •  No further HSNI bids were sent out this week in the Boys’ Division. We await results from Hopkins Hustle and multiple state championship events this coming weekend before additional bids will go out.

Notes

  • #1 South Eugene (OR) continues to look like the dominant HSNI favorite. Their closest game at Spaghetti Western was a 10 goal win over #4 ranked El Cerrito (CA). They’ve been truly unstoppable in 2026.
  • Alameda (CA) was the big story from Spaghetti. The team has had mixed results in California league play but came out strong at the big west coast tournament, landing two wins over Berkeley (CA) and playing tight with El Cerrito.
  • Roosevelt (WA) got a win over Ingraham-Lakeside (WA) in league play in Seattle, continuing the topsy turvy results from the strongest high school scene in the country. The playoffs are coming soon.
  • Amherst (MA) took down their home tournament, the Amherst Invite, including a win over Northampton. The big question mark — is Cambridge Rindge (MA) the real deal? They are so far undefeated, but Amherst’s results have been much stronger after an early season close loss to Cambridge Rindge.
  • Eastside Prep (WA) closed out a strong regular season with a league win and has earned an HSNI bid! How far can they go in the Washington state playoffs?

Looking Ahead

Hopkins Hustle is this weekend! The second-to-last HSNI qualifier will play host to primarily Minnesota teams, but Middleton (WI) will be the favorite in the Boys Division. Can a surprise challenger swoop a bid?

We’ve also entered State Championship season! There were a couple this past weekend and many more are on deck, including Colorado, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Maryland. These are critical tournaments for teams still battling for an HSNI spot.
