This week, USA Ultimate announced the opening of nominations for the 2021 Callahan Award, which will be awarded despite the lack of a regular season.
Nominations are open immediately and close on December 8th. Voting begins on December 10th and closes on December 21st, the day after the College Championships finals. Normally, voting closes before the College Championships begin and the awards are presented during the tournament.
The Callahan Award is named in honor of Henry Callahan, an important early player and organizer, and recognizes top college players every season.
Like last year, USA Ultimate has changed the award criteria to remove the requirement that voters should only consider nominees’ current college season.
“An athlete’s entire college career can be taken into account when evaluating a candidate,” read the rules. “We have also extended the voting window to include the College Championships event, for this fall only, in order to provide more opportunities for voters to become familiar with the candidates.”
