The AUDL’s San Francisco Flamethrowers have kept the stove cooking in the offseason with three major player acquisitions in the last week, including two key contributors from cross-Bay rival San Jose Spiders.
Greg Cohen — a defensive specialist and the MVP of the Spiders’ championship game — was the first signing announced this week, followed shortly by another Spiders’ transplant, Marcelo Sanchez, who led his former team in assists last season.
Earlier today, the Flamethrowers announced that they had also signed Byron Liu, known for his time playing in the Atlanta club scene.
The Flamethrowers made the playoffs in each of their first two seasons, but fell in the first round both times at the hands of the Spiders. With the Spiders not only losing some of its premier young talent to the Flamethrowers but also two of the most explosive players in the world — Cassidy Rasmussen and Beau Kittredge — to the Dallas Roughnecks, the balance of power could be shifting in the Bay.
