Today’s Doublewide roster news confirms what has been rumored for months: Florida United will be bringing together much of its best talent to make a run at a Club Championship.
A source familiar with the situation confirmed weeks ago that Chris Gibson and Cole Sullivan would be leaving Doublewide to join Florida United. It is unclear whether or not Brodie Smith and Tim Gehret will follow suit.
Discussions and rumors have swirled since the winter about Florida United actually uniting the state’s best players on one superteam. Last year, of course, most of the University of Florida top alumni played for Doublewide and brought home a title together with the Austin crew.
This year, the only remaining Florida vestige on Doublewide is Kurt Gibson, who was instrumental in the team’s success last season, playing significant minutes and leading the team past Revolver in the Club Championships finals.
Florida United has not released its 2013 roster.
