If you have flexible travel dates, there are excellent airfares out of Boston, New York, Washington DC, and some other east coast cities to Los Angeles.

BOS-LAX Lei Out Fares

Boston: You can get a Friday afternoon departure (Jan. 15) and Monday night red-eye (landing in Boston Tuesday AM) non-stop on Virgin America for $277.

New York: Want to take a whole week? You can fly Wednesday to Wednesday for $222! There are plenty of other <$300 fares if you are willing to fly out on Thursday or back on Tuesday. Even peak dates (Fri/Mon) are just over $300, which is still a decent deal.

BWI-LAX Lei Out Fares

Washington/Baltimore: Lots of cheap options if you’re willing to fly back Tuesday night red-eye. You can get a Friday night departure and Tuesday night red-eye for $241!

Kayak is a great website to check fares across flexible travel dates and compare multiple airlines all at once. Be sure to select the “+- 3 days” tab and check multiple flight options. Google Flights is even better for checking even larger windows for bargain travel. Never forget to separately check Southwest!
