Sydney Colony Changes Their Name to Sunder

The top men’s club out of Sydney, Australia, will no longer be known as Colony. As of today, the club has rebranded as Sunder.

Sydney has a legacy of excellence in the international ultimate scene, having claimed a silver medal at WUCC 2018 and a 4th place finish at WUCC 2014. They decided to change their name this summer amongst global protests for racial justice and equity.

In July, they posted on Facebook, “In light of recent events, Colony will be changing its name as a club. When the club was founded 11 years ago, we never intended for the name to be a reflection of the injustices of Australia’s colonial history. But it’s an affiliation we can no longer ignore. We want to be a club that is inclusive and welcoming, and we want to have an identity and culture that anyone can be a part of.”

Sunder is a verb that means “to break something apart.”
