We are still taking rolling applications for a Business Development position. It is a part-time, paid (and potentially lucrative) opportunity, See the listing here.
With the college season nearing an end, Ultiworld is looking ahead to an exciting summer of club, pro, and international competition.
Our reporting continues to become more in-depth as we grow as a website. We are looking to continue that trend as we expand our team by hiring some new staff. And, yes, we mean hiring — these are paid positions. If you are interested in getting involved with a fast-growing, high-quality sports journalism brand, we want to hear from you.
Currently we are most interested in filling the following positions:
Video/Strategy Analysis
If you’ve been told you have a mind for the game, love watching video, or just think you can contribute to high level discussion of elite teams, we want you. As video becomes more pervasive and team strategy deepens, Ultiworld continues to invest in team breakdowns, tips for players, and analytic content.
This position doesn’t require any technical video experience or weekend availability; if you’re the right fit, then we can be flexible. Most of our analytical pieces are done in a longer timeframe, using a team approach to brainstorming and writing together. The end goal is clean, crisp, and polished pieces that bring offline Ultimate expertise to our online readers.
Women’s Reporting
Just to be clear, all of our positions below are open for focus in the Men’s, Women’s and Mixed divisions. But we wanted to explicitly solicit applicants who are interested in writing about the women’s game and increase our coverage on women’s ultimate. If you think women’s ultimate deserves more coverage, now is your chance to join our great team of women’s reporters and get paid at the same time!
Columnists: Become A Voice
If you are an experienced player or coach, and feel compelled to write about ultimate, we are interested in hiring you as a part of our new ‘voices’ section (which will become integral upon our imminent website redesign). Whether you want to write opinion columns connected to the news cycle, write about high-level strategy, or something entirely different, there may be a place for you.
These positions operate outside of the normal news operation at Ultiworld, and are flexible in their format. Some current voices include Tiina Booth, Sion “Brummie” Scone, and Benji Heywood.
Club Regional Coordinator/Writer
We are looking for smart, capable writers/reporters/editors who know their local Ultimate community well. This position will be a blend of writing, facilitating coverage on a regional basis, editing local writers’ work, and helping develop Ultiworld around different parts of the country.
We are particularly interested in hiring staff in the Midwest and South Central. The ability to travel on weekends for tournament coverage a plus. (All travel expenses are paid).
Writing, reporting, or editing experience preferred, but not required.
Club Beat Reporters
Think the Regional Coordinator position is a little too much for you, but still want to do local reporting? The Beat Reporter position could be a perfect fit. Follow one or two teams for the season, doing reporting, interviews, and in-depth coverage. We are particularly looking for coverage of the Pro, Elite and top Select teams (Nationals contenders) in each of the Men’s and Women’s Divisions.
Club Tournament Reporters
The above two positions could also fall into this category, but tournament reporting is its own fun line of work. Be on the ground during a weekend of competition and follow the stories, interview players, and write about the teams. This is the fundamental work we do at Ultiworld — become a part of it.
No experience? Don’t worry — we have training and protocols to follow.
We are always looking for good tournament reporters from around the country. Particularly looking for reporters in the Midwest, South Central, and West.
