Below, we give you 10 reasons to get to Madison for what is sure to be an awesome event. For more information about the Championship Weekend, check out the AUDL’s website.
Tickets are still available, starting at just $15 for a weekend pass!
1. Dallas Roughnecks v. Toronto Rush
The winningest team in AUDL history faces off against the most talented squad in the league. The undefeated Dallas Roughnecks and their cadre of stars like Beau Kittredge and Dylan Freechild go head-to-head against the Toronto Rush, Mark Lloyd, and the team’s swarming defense.
2. Seattle Cascades V. Madison Radicals
Undefeated in 2016 and riding a 31-game home winning streak, the Madison Radicals host the best from the west, the Seattle Cascades. The Radicals own the league’s best defense, while the Cascades have recently tapped their championship-caliber potential with some dominant playoff victories.
3. Breese Stevens Field
There is not a more electric stadium to watch ultimate in than Breese Stevens Field. Originally built in 1925, the historic stoney confines were renovated in early 2016 with improved concessions. They are conveniently located just six blocks from the State Capitol building in the heart of Madison’s downtown. There’s not a bad seat in the house, as the stands sit right on top of the action. Don’t miss field-level access for an intimate fan experience.
4. The Zipline
Get a one-of-a-kind view of the games as you fly along a 300-foot zipline behind the endzone. You and a friend can even do some target practice with a disc as you cruise through the open air.
5. Charity Dunk Tank
Dunk and get dunked on! We are introducing a Charity Dunk Tank on Saturday where you will be able to Dunk the AUDL Commissioner Steve Gordon, as well as top players from around the league. All proceeds will be going towards the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer (MAAC) Fund.
6. The MACC Fund Charity Challenge
It’s like an old fashioned game of horse: a top thrower from each final four team is paired with a fan that acts as the target. Each has to make the catch after a difficult throw. The winning teams move on to the Championship on Sunday.
7. Great Food And Cold Beer
Madison has some of the best concessions in the league. There will be 10 beers on tap, wine, and a special VIP bar stocked with local spirits from the Old Sugar Distillery. You won’t go hungry either! There will be tons of Wisconsin classics, including brats, burgers, dogs, funnel cake, and (of course) cheese curds. The VIP bus will be cooking up wood fired pizzas and local ice cream maker Chocolate Shop will be on site.
8. Pro-Am Scrimmage
On Friday night, fans will have an opportunity to play a full AUDL game with some AUDL players and staff. The game with be video-taped by our crew and the “voice of ultimate” Evan Lepler will be on the mic for the game. After the game, dinner will be served under the lights at Breese Stevens for fans, players, and AUDL staff.
9. Pro Clinics
On Saturday morning before the afternoon’s semifinals matchups, the AUDL will be running two clinics. The first is a kids clinic for those 8th grade and under at 9:00 AM. The second clinic starts at 11:00 AM and is more advanced, designed for players in high school and older. They will both be run by AUDL pros.
10. The Best Teams And Players In The World
If you enjoy watching ultimate, this will be best fan experience of the year. The top four teams in the AUDL will be facing off, featuring players like Beau Kittredge, Jimmy Mickle, Mark Lloyd, Isaiah Masek-Kelly, Matt Rehder, Danny Karlinsky, Peter Graffy, and Andrew Meshnik. There are two 15-0 teams on either side of the bracket. There are fan events from Friday night through Sunday afternoon. Over the last four years, Madison has worked to create a great fan experience. This is an amazing chance to see it for yourself.
