Welcome to Opening Pull, your weekly wrap-up of the previous week in ultimate. We’ve gathered the news you need to know and highlights you need to see, and we’ll let you know what’s coming up in the next week.
Premier Ultimate League Eyeing 2020 Expansion
After a successful launch season, the Premier Ultimate League has plans to add at least four new teams to the returning eight clubs for the upcoming 2020 season. There hasn’t been a formal announcement, but our own Charlie Eisenhood reported the story in our In The Zone newsletter, which is available for our subscribers. Expect more details — including the cities and their team names — to come from the PUL in the near future.
New USA Ultimate Website In The Works
It’s something of an inside joke that ultimate players constantly complain about the USAU website. Some of those complaints have to do with the score reporter, but there is truth to the steady flow of griping. Could those days be at an end? USA Ultimate hopes to show off a new site in 2020, according to a story also reported in In The Zone. It’s been about 10 years since the new site went live, and the redesign should hopefully modernize USA Ultimate’s web presence. Until then, the complaints will continue as scheduled.
Social Media Highlights
When the Philadelphia Phoenix took to Lincoln Financial Field during halftime of an NFL game, they got a pretty good reception from social media, especially since the local football team was having a rough outing.
It’s been a great day for #ultimate. Thanks to our fans, old and new, for cheering us on!🔥 NixAtTheLinc #phlphoenix #SEAvsPHI @theAUDL pic.twitter.com/l7N0SX4tT2
