BIRMINGHAM, AL — Every game of ultimate is won by a whole team, not an individual or even a handful of players. This was especially true of the 2022 World Games, where the communication, coordination, and common sense of purpose had to run fourteen players deep for any team to have so much as a whiff of a win. Even so, in my view it is always a worthy endeavor to highlight the brightest stars. They bring character to the sport and add texture to our understanding of it.

The following list does not represent an authoritative opinion or an official recognition. It is not the end of the discussion. (To the contrary, I hope it will start some fun discussions.) It is certainly subjective in nature, and, furthermore, I would not argue with you if you said that rankings are stupid. Caveats aside, I am one of the few in the world to have been afforded the rare privilege of watching every point of every game at the tournament in person, and I took this exercise seriously.

I included every game for consideration: pool play, the medal bracket, and consolation. The result is a list with far more deserving players than places to include them. That said, I feel confident that the top 19 are inarguable inclusions, think what you will of the order. I have managed the best I can with the final six names – there were at least three other worthy players on every team at the tournament who could have been justified.

All right, enough preamble. On to the top 25 individual performances of the World Games.

25. Caro Ma (Australia)
