Hello and welcome to a new frontier in ultimate frisbee: you can legally bet on the sport. That’s right: DraftKings has started offering markets for the AUDL in a growing number of states, although not all states with legal access to the service currently have access to AUDL markets…yet.

This column for subscribers provides weekly AUDL betting picks, our best bets, and game analysis. If you’re new or need to brush up on the sportsbetting basics, check out our introductory entry.

Just three games left in the season, and two sets of lines. Because of that, we’ll even discuss some totals in addition to the lines and our Best Bets. We might be able to edit in picks based on Friday’s results if DraftKings gets a line up. So if you’re into that, stay tuned!

Championship Weekend AUDL Games

CHI vs. NY (-3) [39.5]

Updated Saturday after line was released.

Keith: Both of these teams looked impressive Friday night, thoroughly dismantling their opposition, although both Colorado and Carolina looked wildly out of sorts. How much of that was caused by the respective defenses is the kind of decision a bettor will want to make first. I want to believe Chicago can give us a close game, and the low score favors a tighter margin, but they made their share of mistakes against the Summit, who just seemed averse to capitalizing. Those mistakes will bury them against the Empire. NY -3

The forecast is windy and my analysis of the total from New York and Carolina holds here; that game squeaked under the same number with 38. I still wouldn’t look at hitting this hard, but if I was going after the total, I’d lean to the under. UNDER 39.5

Charlie: New York’s defense is capable of ripping this game away from Chicago, but don’t be fooled into thinking that, because NY looked great against Carolina, they will just roll over Chicago, as well. The Union defense was impressive against Colorado. Still, I think NY has too much firepower. I like NY on the money line more than I like laying the three, but if pushed I will take it. NY -3

CAR vs. NY (-2) [39.5]

Keith: I’ll be shocked if any of my colleague’s side with New York to cover this spread. These are two teams that have a history of being step-for-step with one another, both with pretty full casts. Carolina put forth the stronger effort last week, and that’s just enough to help make up for being the inferior squad in the regular season. Gotta take the points. CAR +2

As for the total, I’d lean the under, but probably fade this. 37-39 feels very likely to me, and that’s too close for comfort. Both teams have been very stingy, averaging fewer than 20 goals against when playing playoff-quality competition. UNDER 39.5
