2024 Throw of the Year: Fantine Monnerat – France Women’s (WFDF WJUC)
When you upset the United States at the U20 World Championships, there’s not much more to add to the glory of the gold medal. But perhaps including a Throw of the Year to the proverbial trophy case can add some extra shine for Fantine Monnerat. As part of France’s fantastic showing, Monnerat’s arcing forehand hit the backside of the defense for a break that put the French up 2-0 and made it readily apparent that they were not going to play afraid.
Monnerat is known for her fearlessness, with her teammates characterizing her as a honey badger. She finished second on that WJUC team in assists and contributed to three scores in the final.
Perhaps this is a sign that 2025 needs to be ready for France. Monnerat’s lefty forehand took down global stars like Manuela Cardenas and Brit Dos Santos. And she often did so comfortably, including outscoring American Calvin Brown with 60% of the vote in the final.
