There’s a storm brewing, in more ways than one. Sunday at Pres Day was one of the more action-packed tournament days in recent memory — in the first place because it featured so many games. A weather system set San Diego on Monday prompted the tournament directors to shelve power pools in favor of bracket seeding, prequarters, quarters and semis all on the same day. It was an immense undertaking for the teams involved. Fans, though, couldn’t have had it better, especially since a pair of sensational semis featuring stiff challenges (one of them successful!) to topple the two-team title contending class capped the day.
Sol Blaze to the Final
A few short weeks after making a splashy Santa Barbara Invite debut that announced them as a team to watch in 2026, #4 UC Santa Cruz Sol took another big step forward, knocking off #2 UBC Thunderbirds to the tune of 12-11 in a thrilling semifinal. We had our cameras trained on the other semi, but we did manage to capture universe point.
