I have to start this recap with a mea culpa. Forgive me for assuming the division’s top-tier pecking order (Carleton, Stanford, UBC) was set in stone at this point in the season. My fatal mistake was losing sight of where (and when) we are: smack dab in the middle of March Madness.
Saturday at Northwest Challenge delivered all the drama the best NCAA tournaments provide: big plays, iconic moments, gutsy comebacks, and upsets stacked on upsets. I couldn’t help drawing some parallels between what unfolded on the fields today and what’s already enshrined in March Madness lore. Bear in mind that I was playing high school basketball in the mid-2010s, so we’re heavily over-indexed there. Here we go!
