These players need to be in your lineups!

Fantasy Frisbee is back! And this year, it’s coming to the People’s Division, making an already unpredictable game even more chaotic. If you’ve got no idea where to start as you build out your roster, you’ve come to the right place. I’m here to give you seven of my favorite picks for this year’s edition of D-III Fantasy Frisbee.

Wade Buchheit – Williams WUFO ($4)

One of the most common ways to find success in Fantasy Ultimate is to hunt out great players who have stepped up into bigger roles this season, taking advantage of their lower price tag. No player embodies that archetype more than WUFO’s Wade Buchheit. Last time we saw Williams at Nationals, Buchheit was a bit further down the pecking order, behind the likes of Danny Klein, Charles Tantum, and Reed Kendall. His 5G/7A/9D/5T line was impressive, but he could go off for so much more this year as Williams’ best player and the centerpiece of their offense. And he costs just $4 against your budget.

Claire Lee – Macalester Pursesnatchers ($15)

Claire Lee’s 2024 stat line was the stuff of legends: 4G/28A/43D(!)/89T(!!!). Many will look at those turnover numbers and walk away from her. Don’t make that mistake. Yes, 89 turnovers is a lot. But so are those 43 blocks! Plug her in as a Defender, reap that x9 multiplier for blocks (and in windy Waukegan, she’s going to get a ton of them), and crush your league.

Whitman’s Nico Darringer readies a flick past the mark at the 2025 D-III College Championships. Photo: Sam Hotaling – UltiPhotos

Nico Darringer – Whitman Sweets ($13)

Darringer is a great pick if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly choice in your Captain spot. He’s scored nine goals in each of his three previous Nationals appearances, and has increased his assists each time as well. With Kai Kirsch now graduated, Darringer is in a great spot to finally eclipse double-digits in goals. His penchant for getting blocks is pretty useful as well.

Clara Nerbonne – Kenyon Blu-Ray ($3)

Rookies are another frequently underpriced set in Fantasy Frisbee, especially if they don’t have a YCC or Club background to raise their profile. My favorite rookie this year is Kenyon’s Clara Nerbonne, who has already established herself as a key fixture on Blu-Ray’s offense. She could rack up a ton of goals this weekend, taking advantage of Will and Kaley Johnson’s tremendous throwing and her own instincts in the redzone.

Louis Douville Beaudoin – Middlebury Pranksters ($20)

Douville Beaudoin being priced at $11 fewer than his teammate Peter Mans feels like a crime. The pair’s stat lines were nearly identical last year: LDB’s was slightly lighter on assists, partially due to his injury in the final. The big difference in their respective scores was Mans’ extra blocks, but they’re a pretty similar caliber of defender overall. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s LDB who has more blocks this year and ends up the leading Prankster scorer.

Claire Willett – Mount Holyoke Daisy Chain ($22)

One strategy I’ll lean into for the combined division league is avoiding women’s division handlers, thanks to the usually increased turnover numbers in that division. With that in mind, and keeping with the idea that rosters in the combined league should have an even mix of players in both divisions (not an official requirement, but it falls under Spirit of the Game), Claire Willett is a great option. She was fourth in goals at Nationals last year (15), and all the players ahead of her have graduated. Her 11 blocks last year also prove she’ll rack up points that way, and her turnover numbers are manageable.

Couper Kerns – Oklahoma Christian Eagles ($8)

Eight dollars frankly feels like a steal for a player as talented as Kerns. He’s a great downfield player on both sides of the ball and a classic box score stuffer. Just replicating his twelve goals from last year would be great value at this price tag, but if he’s able to also match his seven blocks from 2024? That, in a Cutter or Defender role, would be an excellent budget play and free up dollars to spend elsewhere.
