Bluffing

We emailed briefly with Doublewide’s Kurt Gibson, who is serving as the main spokesperson for the teams in discussions with USA Ultimate. Problem is, he won’t meet with them until next week — but Monday is January 7th, NexGen’s deadline for teams to commit to their league.

NexGen founder Kevin Minderhout told us yesterday that if teams haven’t committed by the 7th, he’ll table the proposal for 2013. That’s looking like a big bluff.

Teams aren’t going to be interested in rushing this decision. Those on the fence will certainly wait until Gibson meets with the Boulder staff.

Is Minderhout trying to pressure teams into a quicker decision (which likely benefits him)? His initial deadline certainly seemed impossible to meet, so he extended it. Now it looks like this will be impossible as well. Extend it again?

We’ll see what happens on Monday.
