If you will be traveling during the college season, now is a great time to scope out your airfare. Many carriers — including JetBlue, Southwest, and Alaska — are holding major winter and spring sales right now. Many other major airlines are matching prices. There are a lot of good fares to tournament destinations around the country through early April.
As always, I recommend using Kayak to search for flights, which allows you to search multiple airports (e.g. SFO, OAK, and SJC) and flexible dates all at once. It is often smart to book your tickets via Priceline, which will give you a full refund up until 11:59 PM the day after you purchase your tickets. You can always book and then cancel later.
Don’t forget to check Southwest separately — they do not allow their flights to be aggregated on Kayak or other sites.
There are particularly good sales right now to Oakland (Stanford Invite) on Southwest & Alaska, Austin (Centex) on United and Southwest, and Seattle (Northwest Challenge) on Alaska, JetBlue, and United.
