After initially planning to take the Club season off, Jesse Shofner becomes a late addition to Washington DC Scandal in time for the 2016 Series. Shofner showed up on the roster of the two-time national champs ahead of this weekend’s Pro Flight Finale and the move was confirmed this morning via the team’s Twitter account:
Christmas comes in August!
This year Santa brought us two gifts for our team: Huldah Gronvall and Jesse Shofner…. https://t.co/25vU1hgoQx— Scandal Ultimate (@ScandalUltimate) August 16, 2016
Shofner is coming off an outstanding fifth year with Oregon Fugue where she earned Ultiworld’s 2016 College Player of the Year honors and was runner-up for the Callahan award. She has spent the past two seasons competing with Portland Schwa, previously played club with Nashville’s DeSoto and Guillermo Y Compania, represented the US internationally at the U20 and U23 levels, and was a member of the All-Star Ultimate Tour, which finished up their 2016 tour last week in Boston.
Her unique style will make her an asset anywhere she plays and her ability to contribute all over the field will be a boon for a Scandal squad looking for a bit more firepower to support All-Club talents Jenny Fey and Sandy Jorgenson.
Jesse’s brother Markham plays in DC as well, as a key contributor for Truck Stop.
Scandal also announced the addition of Huldah Gronvall to their 2016 roster, a member of the club since its inception, who had planned to retire.
Ultiworld has reached out for comment, but had not heard back at press time.
