Ultiworld Is Hiring

As we transition away from the Club season and look ahead to the upcoming College action, we are excited to announce a few changes here at Ultiworld. We will soon be implementing a modest redesign of the website that will enable some great new features: a much improved comment system, a better browsing experience, and some cool new content that we’re saving as a surprise.

Along with that, we are looking to expand our team by hiring some new writers as we head into the new year. And, yes, we mean hiring — these will be paid positions. If you are interested in getting involved with a fast-growing, high-quality sports journalism brand, we want to hear from you.

Currently, we are particularly interested in part-time reporters in the following areas:

Business Reporter. The recent growth of Ultimate has led to a huge increase in the amount of money invested in the sport. From apparel companies to training materials to professional leagues, the business side of Ultimate is exploding. We are looking for someone who can get beyond the PR pitch to explain what’s happening, who’s investing, and what it all means. Some business or journalism experience preferred, but not required. A solid list of contacts within the Ultimate community (particularly on the business side) is a plus.

Tournament Reporters. The weekend tournament is a staple of Ultimate. We are looking for on-the-ground reporters to take notes, shoot video, interview players, and more — basically, be a sports reporter. Skills required: quick, insightful writing and a knowledge of ultimate. You don’t need to be a trained reporter. Primarily looking for people outside the Northeast corridor.

Strategy Analyst. Can you look at game tape from Ultimate and know right away what’s going on? We are looking for an experienced player and/or coach to break down plays and go beyond the obvious to give new insight into games.

Opinion Columnist. There’s a lot happening right now in Ultimate. But it’s important to be able to interpret the news and put the pieces together to get to the heart of what’s happening. We are looking for a great writer and a bright Ultimate mind to write an opinion column consistently (frequency can be discussed).

To apply for any of the above positions, please send an email to [email protected] with your name, your credentials, why you would be a good fit for Ultiworld, which position you are applying for, and three story pitches relevant to your position. If you think you could contribute to Ultiworld, but not specifically for one of the above positions, let us know! We are open to other ideas.

Questions and comments can be directed to the same email address or left in the comments on this post.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!
