Freakonomics Tackles Self-Officiation In Ultimate

Stephen Dubner, a co-author of the wildly popular economics book Freakonomics, hosts a Freakonomics-branded podcast on WNYC, the flagship public radio station in New York.

This week, the podcast is all about self-policing, from ice skating to ultimate to the world. Dubner talks with Jody Avirgan, a WNYC producer and player for the New York Rumble, who takes him out to a New York PoNY practice at Randall’s Island.

The show goes onto discuss the basics of Spirit of the Game, the “do-over” on contested fouls, and the morality of self-officiation.

Listen to the show — the segment on ultimate begins at 5:55.

Hat tip to Alex Deckard for pointing us to the podcast.
