Regionals Saturday Update: See Which Teams Are Still In The Hunt

2016 USA Ultimate Series Disc LogoHere is a quick update on the results from Regionals on Saturday, and which teams are still in the mix for a bid to the National Championships.

Great Lakes

Men’s (2 Bids)

Chicago Machine and Michigan High Five easily advanced to Sunday’s final after getting 15-6 and 15-8 wins, respectively, in the semifinals. The three and four seeds, Smokestack and Beachfront Property, both advanced to semis and have dropped into the second place bracket.

Mixed (1 Bid)

Here are your quarterfinals: Steamboat v. Prion, Tequila Mockingbird v. Liquid Hustle, Columbus Cocktails v. Dream Killas, UPA v. Shakedown.

The top three seeds — Steamboat, UPA, and Columbus Cocktails — all went undefeated in pool play.

Women’s (1 Bid)

Rival defeated Nemesis 12-8 and will finish out bracket play this morning before likely seeing Nemesis again in the final.

Mid-Atlantic

Men’s (2 Bids)

Truck Stop and Patrol both finished Saturday 4-0 and will meet in the final after a final, unimportant pool play game on Sunday morning. Garden State Ultimate and Temper each have just one loss; Temper gave Truck Stop a great game and held a lead in the second half before losing 13-11. Patrol had to make a late surge to defeat John Doe 14-13.

Mixed (3 Bids)

Here are your quarterfinals: Bang! v. Distelfink, MxD v. Ambiguous Grey, AMP v. Clue, Sparkle Ponies v. Alloy.

Bang! shocked AMP, the #1 ranked team in the country, with an 11-10 victory in crossover play. That puts AMP on the same side of the bracket as the undefeated Alloy, who crushed Ambiguous Grey 14-8 in the crossover.

Women’s (2 Bids)

Scandal and Green Means Go will meet in the final after blowing by the competition on Saturday. Both teams are heavy favorites to advance to Nationals.

North Central

Men’s (2 Bids)

Here are your semifinals: Sub Zero v. Mad Men, Madison Club v. Prairie Fire.

Sub Zero made an epic second half comeback to beat Madison Club in pool play and take the overall one seed in the bracket. Prairie Fire won their pool comfortably. Mad Men, the 10 seed, upset 4-seed Illusion to get into the semis.

Mixed (3 Bids)

Drag’N Thrust and Chad Larson Experience both went 4-0 on Saturday, with NOISE coming up just short against Drag’N in a 9-8 loss. Both pools will feature the final round of pool play this morning, with 3-1 teams facing off for a spot in semis (NOISE v. Des Moines Metro in Pool A; No Touching v. Chalice in Pool B).

Women’s (1 Bid)

Heist looked dominant en route to a 4-0 day. They defeated the two-seed Pop by five.

Northeast

Men’s (3 Bids)

Ironside and PoNY will face off in the final. PoNY defeated GOAT 15-12 in a convincing semifinals win while Ironside easily defeated 4-seed Dig in the other semifinal. Phoenix and Mockingbird are still alive in the backdoor bracket.

Mixed (2 Bids)

Slow White and Metro North will face off in the final. Wild Card played tough against Metro North in semis but lost 14-12. UNION lost 15-8 to Slow White in the other semi. 7 Express and Crash are still alive in the backdoor bracket.

Women’s (2 Bids)

The Women’s Division was expected to be exciting: it has not disappointed. In the first round, Bent stunned Brute Squad 13-11 in one of the day’s biggest upsets. Later, Iris upset 6ixers 14-12. Since both top seeds lost, the semifinals remain the same as they would have been had the games gone to seed.

The semis are Bent v. 6ixers and Brute Squad v. Iris. Four other teams are still alive in the backdoor bracket.

Northwest

Men’s (2 Bids)

Here are your semifinals: Sockeye v. Powderhogs & Rhino v. Furious George.

Sockeye and Rhino both went undefeated in pool play. Rhino beat Powderhogs 13-9; Sockeye beat Furious George 13-10. Four other teams are still alive in the backdoor bracket.

Mixed (1 Bid)

Here are your quarterfinals: Seattle Mixtape v. ROC’em, Bozos v. MTF, Birdfruit v. BoyShe, BFG v. The Administrators.

Mixtape and BFG went undefeated in pool play. BFG had the closest game of the top seeds, beating Bozos 8-6 in pool play.

Women’s (3 Bids)

Here are your semifinals: Seattle Riot v. Zephyr, Underground v. Traffic.

Riot and Traffic had little resistance as they won their pools and earned byes into semis. Underground eked out a 14-13 win over Schwa and is likely to see Schwa again in the third place game on Sunday. Four teams, including Schwa, are still alive in the backdoor bracket.

South Central

Men’s (3 Bids)

Johnny Bravo and HIP finished the day undefeated, with Bravo taking down Doublewide 15-7 in the crossover game and HIP beating Inception 13-12.

Here are your quarterfinals: Johnny Bravo v. Dallas United, Dreadnought v. Inception, Doublewide v. Plex, Choice City Hops v. HIP. So far, there have been few surprises, but the close game between HIP and Inception could foreshadow a thrilling Sunday.

Mixed (3 Bids)

Here are your quarterfinals: Love Tractor v. Moontower, Public Enemy v. Freetail, Cosa Nostra v. Mesteño, Sweet Action v. shame.

Love Tractor and shame. were dominant; each team went undefeated in pool play and then blew out their opponents in the crossover game.

Women’s (2 Bids)

Molly Brown beat Showdown 13-8 and finished 4-0 on the day. Pool play continues this morning. Molly Brown and Showdown are expected to meet in the final. Maeve will have a chance to shake that up with a game against Showdown today.

Southeast

Men’s (1 Bid)

Here are your quarterfinals: Florida United v. Freaks, Ring of Fire v. Turbine, Ironmen v. Sour Mash, and Chain Lightning v. Cash Crop.

Ironmen got the day’s big upset over Turbine to win Pool C; Turbine had to battle one out, 15-14, against Lost Boys in prequarters to advance to a rematch with Ring in quarters.

There have been numerous close games and Sunday should be thrilling.

Mixed (1 Bid)

Here are your quarterfinals: Bucket v. Toro, G-Unit v. Charlotte Storm, Orlando Friends v. Jared Lorenzen Project, and Swing State v. Cahoots.

The top four seeds all ended up on the same side of the bracket after Toro and Charlotte Storm finished second in their respective pools.

Women’s (2 Bids)

Phoenix and Ozone annihilated the rest of the competition and will face off in the final this morning.

Southwest

Men’s (1 Bid)

Here are your quarterfinals: Revolver v. Shenanigans, Sprawl v. Streetgang, SoCal Condors v. Renegade, Guerrilla v. Sundowners.

Guerrilla got a 13-12 win over Sprawl to win Pool B as Revolver dominated Pool A. Condors and Sprawl finished 2nd in their pools.

Mixed (2 Bids)

Mischief and Polar Bears, the top two seeds, will face off in the final. Polar Bears beat Blackbird 15-11 in the semis as Mischief blew by Dorado 15-7.

7 Figures, Dorado, Classy, and Blackbird are still alive in the backdoor bracket.

Women’s (3 Bids)

Fury went 4-0 and Wildfire handily beat Nightlock 13-8 on day one. Nightlock and Fury will play this morning as pool play wraps up.
