US World Games 2022 Team Tryout List Announced

The pool includes 11 returners from the 2017 team.

USA Ultimate released the names of the 74 individuals invited to tryout for the World Games team that will represent the country at the 2022 World Games. The event will be held in Birmingham, AL next July, where the host team will be the heavy favorite coming off four straight gold medals at this event. The final roster will include 14 players, seven men-matching and seven women-matching. During the previous cycle, the roster first cut to 20 players for training before making the final cuts to reach 14.

In the tryout pool are eleven returners from the 2017 team that finished first in Wroclaw, Poland: Jimmy Mickle, Claire Desmond, Georgia Bosscher, Dylan Freechild, Chris Kocher, Carolyn Finney, Nick Stuart, Anna Nazarov, Grant Lindsley, Sarah Griffith, and Liên Hoffmann.

Of the six players who made that roster but were not chosen to travel with the team, four are included in this year’s tryouts: Opi Payne, Nicky Spiva, Claire Chastain, and Kami Groom.

Also invited are 13 players who were not selected for the US National Teams for WUGC in 2020, which were canceled: Bridget Mizener, Jessie O’Connor, Julia Sherwood, Karen Ehrhardt, Lindsay Soo, Sam Little, Robyn Fennig, Ronnie Eder, Nathan Champoux, Daniel Lee, Anders Juengst, and Antoine Davis, as well as the aforementioned Nick Stuart.

Team representation has some significant clusters. San Francisco Fury leads all clubs with nine players invited, while New York PoNY claims eight. Both Boston Brute Squad and Raleigh Ring of Fire each are sending six players. Seattle Mixtape leads mixed clubs with five representatives, making up a sizable portion of the 17 players from the mixed division that have gotten invites.
