High School Power Rankings: Post-YULA Edition [3/28/22]

Welcome to the second edition of the 2022 High School Power Rankings! The YULA Invite and Terminus were the major events of the last two weeks, and the Seattle girls have begun local competition. The rankings can be permanently found on our Youth Rankings page.

The rankings will eventually be used to determine invitations to the 2022 High School National Invite; currently, we plan to use the rankings published the week of May 16th as the final rankings before final bids are sent out (many bids will be sent out on a rolling basis).

If you have additional information about tournaments or team strength that you would like to be considered for the High School Power Rankings, please email [email protected].

Teams, if you would like to add logos and team information to your Team Pages, follow these instructions!

Without further ado, here are the Top 25 teams in the Boys’ and Girls’ High School Divisions!

  • #2 Jordan continued their strong 2022 campaign with a win at the YULA Invite, notching a 9-4 win over #9 Carolina Friends in the tournament final. They were untouched all weekend with their closest game an 8-6 win over #17 HB Woodlawn in the quarters.
  • #10 Wissahickon makes a 10 spot leap in this week’s rankings after looking very impressive at YULA. They lost by one goal to CFS in semis and easily took third place with a 13-3 win over #14 Washington-Liberty. They also blanked Pennsbury in a game last week.
  • Speaking of Pennsbury, their loss to Wissahickon and a loss to #24 Montclair, who debuts at #24 in this week’s Power Rankings, sends them out of the top 25. A strong fall has given way to a much weaker spring.
  • #14 Washington-Liberty’s win over #15 Lexington floats them up the rankings, but they did not come close to either Jordan or Wissahickon.
  • Welcome to the rankings, #18 Madison and #19 Wilson! Madison was a surprise fifth place finisher at YULA, tallying wins over Wilson and now-unranked Westfield. Wilson got wins over Chapel Hill and Columbia.
  • Midtown (formerly Grady) drops 14 spots after falling to River’s Edge in the Terminus final, 9-8. RECA’s earlier loss to Chapel Hill keeps them from moving up substantially, but they could be a team on the rise.
  • It was a tough weekend at YULA for two strong programs in Columbia and Westfield. Both drop out of the rankings after going 2-4 in their weekend’s games.
High School Girls Power Rankings:
Dropped from rankings: Holy Family Catholic (OH) (10), High Country Homeschoolers (NC) (17), Knoxville (TN) (22), Midtown (GA) (23)

  • #3 Ingraham’s 10-7 win over #4 Lincoln moves the team to the top of the Washington state rankings after Lincoln beat Roosevelt earlier in the month.
  • What an impressive weekend at the YULA Invite for #12 Madison! They win the event over club teams like Triangle Club East and Skymall, although they only eked out 5-4 wins over both Lexington and #21 West Windsor.
  • Ballard debuts at #18 after a strong start to Seattle competition. They beat #20 Cleveland last week.
  • #14 Washington-Liberty edges up one spot after a good showing at YULA, losing only to club teams at the tournament.
  • Decatur enters the rankings at #23 after winning Terminus over Midtown. The team is now playing with its own high school roster after being a combo team in past years.
  • A solid weekend from Lower Merion, including a win over #25 HB Woodlawn, wasn’t quite enough to get them into the rankings, but the preseason favorite in Pennsylvania, Radnor, debuts at #24.
  • Three preseason top 25 teams — Holy Family Catholic, High Country Homeschoolers, and Knoxville — were dropped this week after receiving additional information about the teams. Turnover and program changes has left the previously highly-ranked teams either defunct or rebuilding.
